PANJIM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a short and quick visit to Goa on Monday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Dr Pramod Sawant government.
PM Modi’s Air India One landed in Goa at Dabolim and from there he took a chopper to Taleigao Plateau, reaching the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium on the dot, for the swearing-in ceremony.
Modi attended the swearing-in ceremony but made no formal speech. He met the new cabinet ministers, waved to the crowds, greeted the Union Ministers, chief ministers of other States and promptly left the venue.
He again took the chopper to Dabolim airport, from where he left for New Delhi by Air India One.
But there was no time lost, for even when in flight the PM can be continuously at work as Air India One is a flying office from where the PM can make calls, attend virtual meetings, speak to staff, give directions and even clear files. On Air India One, the PM can do everything he does when on ground, including supervise military action.
For the BJP, the PM’s presence in Goa for the swearing-in ceremony was important, as it sent a strong message that the Centre supports the Goa government and that the double engine sarkar template that the BJP campaigned on for the election.
