PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza and urge to take up the issue of pending works in the new market complex.
According to PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak, the Ponda market project, undertaken by the GSUDA, has crossed expenditure of over Rs 30 crore.
GSUDA was to hand over the project to PMC this year. However, Dr Nayak claimed that PMC cannot take possession of the market complex as it is incomplete.
During inspection of the complex on Thursday, Dr Nayak along with some councillors brought to the notice of GSUDA Chief Project Officer (CPO) Uday Lawande the areas at the market that needs urgent attention.
Lawande, who was present at the inspection, said concerns raised by PMC will be communicated to the higher ups. PMC Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes was also present during the inspection.
“PMC cannot take possession of the complex as there are several incomplete works. As a result, PMC will have to spend over a crore of rupees on the works if at all we take possession,” informed Dr Nayak.
“Works like electricity and water connection are pending and even cracks in the walls have appeared. Apart from a completion certificate from PDA, there are other technical formalities to be done,” added the PMC chairperson, Dr Nayak.
