PMC to move 15 footpath vendors to new market

PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to accommodate 15 footpath vendors near the entrance of the new municipal market complex, and it will shift more vendors there if adequate space remains.

The vendors have no spot to operate from since the council cleared the footpaths of encroachments some months ago. PMC decided on the rehabilitation at a council  meeting on Wednesday. It gave all vendors four days to deposit sopo fees that were pending for the last four months, failing which it would take strict action against them.
The council further decided to hand over a shop in the market complex to Red Cross Society and to auction the sopo collection contract for September 1 to March 31.
It also decided to inform senior police officials that Ponda police were not cooperating with the PMC.
The councillors also expressed concern about the landslide at Kurtarkar Nagri, Shantinagar-Ponda.
