PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council has decided to provide parking space for public in the basement of the Ponda Market Complex.
During its meeting on Monday, the Council reached at this decision to minimise the parking problems which, they hope, will also lead to the smooth traffic flow in Ponda.
PMC chairperson Radhika Naik said the basement will be also provided with electricity connection to help motorists avoid inconvenience whilst parking.
It may be recalled that the Ponda Market Complex was inaugurated four years back, but only few shops were being used by businessmen. Over hundred spaces for parking of vehicles, including two-wheelers, have been lying idle since the complex opened. The basement was, however, being used for past one year for the treatment of waste from the Organic Waste Converter.
With the traffic congestion increasing on the road leading to the market, the PMC hopes that the illegal parking on the roads will also stop with the opening of the basement for parking.
The PMC has also resolved to repair and renovate the fish market with necessary facilities.
It was also decided to reconstruct and repair the nullahs in the municipal areas by sending proposals to the Water Resources Department.
The Council also took a decision to hire 20 more labourers to carry out monsoon works.
