PONDA: Work on the PMC’s long-delayed Golden Jubilee Project has finally commenced and is now gaining momentum and the work is likely to be completed by May 2025. Workers are currently busy engaged in the construction efforts.

The foundation for the project was laid in 2011; however, it faced multiple delays for various reasons. Now, under the guidance of PMC Chairperson Anand Naik, the project is back on track. This initiative, which is located in the heart of the city near the Old Bus Stand, was initially sanctioned for ₹2 crore during the Congress-led government to commemorate Goa’s Golden Jubilee Year of Liberation.
Originally, the project was expected to be completed by 2016. However, after construction began in June 2015, progress was hindered several times due to rising costs and other issues. The four-storey project was moving at a snail’s pace, and the contractor abandoned it midway through.
In 2017-18, the contractor resumed work but halted once again, leaving the project at a standstill with much of the civil work still pending. Eventually, PMC terminated the contractor and handed the project over to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
Chairperson Anand Naik confirmed that GSUDA has taken over the long-delayed Signature Project in Ponda, which has been pending for nearly a decade. The contractor has assured that the outstanding work will be completed by May 2025, with the costs for the remaining work to be covered by GSUDA.
Construction has already begun in earnest.
