PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday informed members in the Legislative Assembly that the Person of Goan Origin (POGO) Bill moved by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar was unconstitutional.
The Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar had earlier sent the Bill to the Advocate General (AG) law department for their opinion. The Chief Minister laid on the table of the House recommendations made by the Law department with regard to the Bill.

However, Borkar was not satisfied with the government’s contention and demanded that the government should prove how the POGO bill was unconstitutional.
After the Assembly was adjourned sine die, Law Minister Nilesh Cabral said that the Law department had vetted the bill and had made four-page notings about the POGO Bill.
“Sentimentally I also feel that every Goan wants this type of bill. But practically it is not possible because we will have to make Goa a separate country,” said Cabral.
