Poinguinim locals to boycott ZP elections if action not taken against Jalmi

CANACONA:  Over 400 villagers from Poinguinim who attended a meeting held on Tuesday at Parshuram Devalaya hall, along with the Parashuram Devalaya Committee have threatened to boycott the upcoming ZP elections if action is not taken against Ramkrishna Jalmi and the organisers of the anti-CAA meeting that was held in Benaulim last Saturday. The attendees, who are devotees of Lord Parshurama, have issued an ultimatum that action should be taken before March 15.

They condemned Jalmi for making derogatory remarks on Lord Parashurama as well as the organizing body of the meeting and those who remained silent when the ‘wrong statements’ were being made. It was also resolved to congratulate Gaurang Prabhu Malkarnekar, who filed the first complaint against Jalmi and also other vigilant citizens and organisations that came forward in protest of what they described to be a blasphemous act.

The meeting also resolved that Jalmi should present evidence to the media on what basis were the remarks made.  They also called for a written apology from him and the organizers of the anti-CAA meeting.

The meeting also demanded that the educational institutes where Jalmi works at, takes action against him. They also want the organizers of the anti-CAA meeting banned.

Nishakant Tengse Pujari of Shree Parashuram Devalaya, Poinguinim, reiterated that not only what Jalmi said was wrong but that the organizers of the anti-CAA meet as well as the attendees were equally responsible as no one had told Jalmi that what he spoke was wrong.

“Today he spoke against one religion, tomorrow, someone else will speak against another religion. No one should say anything bad against God as he is supreme,” said Pujari.

Datta Naik, Council Member Indian Council of Philosophical research and Damodar Phalgaonkar, President of

Parashuram Devalaya Committee, expressed their displeasure and disappointment that such words were uttered that hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community at large.
