CANCONA: The Poinguinim panchayat objected to felling of trees for the purpose of constructing an ashram on the Ardhfond – Sadolxem hilly slope here.
Sadolxem panch Shilpa Prabhugoankar said that the panchayat had unanimously passed a resolution and opposed the cutting of trees on the hillock. She warned that stern action would be initiated in future against the violators.
It may be recalled that the then acting Sarpanch Elda Fernandes had granted permission to the land owner for constructing of nine temporary huts. But the owner flouted the rules and resorted to hill cutting, instead of erecting huts.
It is learnt that the though the land owner is from Sadolxem, he allegedly sold the property to another party and the latter is suspected to be involved in felling of trees and hill cutting on the pretext of constructing an ashram.
“Poinguinim panchayat had earlier issued a show cause notice to the land owner and was asked to file his reply within 20 days. However, the owner submitted the reply almost after a month,” said the panchayat secretary Rajiv Naik Gaonkar.
