CANACONA: The villagers living in and around Kulti Plateau in the jurisdiction of Poinguinim Village Panchayat, in a memorandum to the Water Resource Department, blamed that they were facing water scarcity as their wells have been dried up due to unauthorised tapping of water through bore wells on top of plateau.
In a written letter, Diogo Da Silva, on behalf of the affected villagers, brought to the notice of the uncommon phenomenon in which most of the wells in the village were going dry.
Speaking to this correspondent, Da Silva alleged that during the last 60 years he has been living in the village and this is the first time the wells started drying up after water was drawn through the bore wells dug on the Kulti Plateau after Poinguinim VP issued the NOC for digging of bore wells there.
Da’Silva, through his communiqué, has urged the BDO and Deputy Director of Panchayats to withdraw the NOC issued to the contractor and seal the bore wells forthwith so that the water table can be maintained.
And as a stop gap arrangement, requested the Water Resource Department, to supply the water through tankers to the villagers.
