Police arrests Congress and TMC members, who were supporting the protestors

PANJIM: The week-long indefinite strike by the anganwadi workers took an ugly turn on Wednesday as four striking anganwadi workers sustained injuries during scuffle with the police, who tried to stop them near the Chief Minister’s residence at Altinho.

Late in the evening, the police arrested Congress and TMC members, who were supporting the protestors.

Anganwadi workers and helpers who are on strike at the Azad Maidan, Panjim for last seven days to seek their demands marched to the Chief Minister’s residence Altinho to press for their demands. A strong police force deployed outside the Chief Minister’s residence tried to stop them. This resulted in clashes between the protestors and police when the latter tried to detain the trade union leader Adv Hridaynath Shirodkar. Four anganwadi workers sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.
