MARRGAO: Fatorda police arrested all the three persons involved in the early morning robbery on February 25, wherein three persons forcibly snatched a bag of Abdul Haq Mulla containing Rs 40 lakh.
In his complaint, Mulla named Mohamad Gaus and Mohamad Azhar and he could not identify the third person. The trio stopped his staff Mohammad Siddhique who was coming with the money in a car by blocking the car with a motorcycle.
Realising the situation, Siddhique ran out of the car with the bag from the lane near Adv Carlos Alvares’ house and ran towards the old Presentation Convent High School where the trio caught him and snatched away the bag and fled on their two-wheelers.
Police obtained the mobile numbers of the two named by the complainant and traced them to Karnataka where they switched off their mobiles. However on March 1, one of the fugitives called his wife in Goa from his mobile and the call was traced to Karwar.
A police team that was already in Karwar traced the call and arrived at the guest house where the three were living in one room and arrested them. On interrogation they revealed that there was a fourth partner who was an employee of the complainant and accordingly he too was arrested from his residence at Rumdamoll. Incidentally, all the four arrested are residents of Rumdamoll.
While Mohammad Gaus (39), Mohammad Azhar (31) and Mohammad Imran (30) were arrested in Karwar, Shabir Shaikh (28) was arrested from Housing Board.
Police Inspector Navlesh Dessai said while Rs 10,10,000 were recovered from the room they were occupying in Karwar, they recovered another Rs 25 lakh from their houses in Goa. “The four had shared the loot amongst themselves by giving Rs 10 lakh to each,” Dessai said.
