PANJIM, JULY 14
Despite all persons arrested in the case being released on bail for lack of evidence, the State government feels the Crime Branch is doing a professional job in investigating the police-politician-drug mafia nexus case.
Replying to queries on the sidelines of the cabinet briefings, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava were of the view that the police were doing a commendable job.
“The police are doing a professional job in the drugs case”, Kamat said adding “…I have said this many times there is no need to repeat it again and again.”
Six persons including six policemen and one Israeli alleged drug dealer were arrested after a Sweedish model uploaded spycam video on youtube.com. However they were released as the court felt there was not enough evidence gathered by police to keep them in custody.
The model also alleged that Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy was also involved in the nexus.
The BJP has demanded the home minister’s resignation following the allegations.
Further, the chief secretary said that the DIG and IGP are directly supervising the case.
“There is absolutely no political pressure on the police. They have been given a free hand,” he said adding “and I feel they are doing a good job.”
