Crime Branch sleuths today arrested an Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) based contract killer and his two accomplices, who were hiding in a village at Bicholim.
A fourth accomplice, Amol however managed to give the police a slip.
“Ajit Nair, Jagjit Nair and Daniel, all 24, were arrested from a flat near Bicholim bus stand today afternoon,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaonkar told reporters.
Nair had fatally shot Supa (Ahmednagar) village deputy Sarpanch Bapusaheb Kandekar on November 13 and since then he was missing.
It is learnt that one Rajaram Shelke who had political rivalry with Bapusaheb had engaged Ajit’s gang to kill the latter.
The gang was apparently paid Rs 3 lakhs to execute the plan.
“Sopa police had intimated us suspecting the killers were in Goa after which we laid a trap and caught them,” he added.
The threesome was netted when they were on their way back to Ahmednagar. It is learnt that they were renting out a room with the help of one Patil, whose details are yet to be gathered.
“We will trace him (Patil) first and find out whether he is also involved in the crime or whether he helped the accused unknowingly,” said an officer.
