Disability awareness campaign underway

PANJIM, NOV 19 The National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities (an all India organization) in collaboration with ONGC will organise a countrywide disability awareness and sensitization campaign till November 30.

The National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities (an all India organization) in collaboration with ONGC will organise a countrywide disability awareness and sensitization campaign till November 30.
The campaign was flagged off on November 16, in New Delhi.
Thereafter programmes in various parts of the country are being organized by coordinating agencies nominated in each of the states from November 19 to 27.
The organisers said the thrust of the campaign is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
With this campaign the National Trust aims to enhance sensitivity towards issues related to disabilities among the general public as also create awareness among the affected families about resources available in the entire country.
The press note issued by the organisers states that though Goa is relatively better placed in the field of disabilities compared to many states in India a lot more remains to be done, especially in the rural areas of Goa.
In Goa the campaign is being coordinated by Sangath which is also the State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC) of the National Trust and Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG). Programmes are organized in Panjim, Margao, Vasco, Canacona, Bicholim, and Pernem from the November 22 to 27 in association with various with various NGOs for the disabled.

Each programme will consist of an disability awareness walk, entertainment programme by the abled and disabled persons, sale of products made by the disabled, grievance redressal forum, employment bureau, talks on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), the various schemes and facilities available for the disabled in Goa by the National Trust and other organizations and success stories of the disabled in Goa.
