Police seize vehicles in gambling racket

PANJIM, JUNE 28
The Crime Branch have seized two four-wheelers and one motorcycle used in a major World Cup betting racket that was busted recently at Taleigao resulting in the arrest of four people.         
DySP Chandrakant Salgaonkar said the two cars, an Innova and a Skoda, and the motorcycle have been attached and the vehicles were now part of the investigation.
Salgaonkar said the four persons from the surrounding areas of Panjim like Taleigao and Dona Paula were arrested under Sections 3 and 4 of the Public Gambling Act.  
He mentioned that the betting was being carried out via the Internet and many people were patronising it.
Sources said the raid was conducted just ahead of the Portugal-Brazil match on June 25 in which the four people were arrested. Police are investigating whether this racket had a national or international connection, they mentioned.
