MAPUSA: The Mapusa Police team on Tuesday left for West Bengal to record the statement of the minor trainee who was allegedly raped by her swimming coach Surajit Ganguly at Mapusa.
It may be recalled that Ganguly, who has been charged with raping the minor, was taken to Mapusa Police Station after being brought to Goa late Saturday night.
He was remanded to six days police custody after producing him before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Sunday.
The accused has been booked by the Mapusa Police, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Goa Children’s Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Ganguly was taken into custody by Goa Police after he was produced before a court in New Delhi.
Acting upon the complaint, Ganguly, a West Bengal native, was arrested by police on Friday in Delhi, within 48 hours. The accused had been on the run since a case was filed against him, initially in Rishra Police Station in Hoogly district of West Bengal, and was later transferred to Mapusa police, where the incident took place.
Goa Police had sent teams to different locations to nab the accused, who had been on the run after the complaint was filed by the victim’s father in West Bengal.
The complainant mentioned that the incident had happened at Mapusa.
