On the final day of the 2023 session of the Goa legislative assembly, a fervent discussion unfolded between Opposition MLAs and the Sports Minister, Govind Gaude, along with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The focus of the debate centred around employment opportunities, particularly the selection process for candidates at the Khelo India Centre for Excellence, as well as the recent tenders floated for food service providers.
Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai raised pertinent questions directed at the Sports Minister regarding the recruitment procedures for the Khelo India Centre of Excellence, which is situated in Campal, Panjim and operated by the Sports Department. He brought to light a concerning issue where certain staff had been hired despite the government’s decision to halt the recruitment process. Sardesai highlighted that a striking 14 out of the 16 selected staff for the Khelo India Centre of Excellence hail from Priol, casting doubts on the fairness of the selection process and implying potential misconduct.

In response, Sports Minister Govind Gaude addressed the concerns, emphasizing the rigorous demands placed on the facility. He underlined that the Khelo India Centre of Excellence has the responsibility of providing meals to athletes on a staggering six occasions daily. To address this requirement, the Sports Minister revealed that tenders had been floated to secure food service providers. He assured that the tender process would be completed within the coming ten days, further ensuring a streamlined and efficient food service for the athletes.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant intervened in the discussion by announcing a significant reform in the recruitment process for various government departments. Effective October 31st, recruitment for all departments will be conducted through the Staff Selection Commission. This step aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and fairness in the hiring procedures across different sectors.
