MARGAO: Goa is yet to come out of the election fever as the usual hustle and bustle was missing at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex on Monday.
Most offices in the complex had its staff present while others who are still away claim to be on election duty. Senior officials in the government departments were eagerly waiting for directions from the Election Commission of India regarding the staff deployed on election duty.
While elections were held on February 4th the results are scheduled to be declared on March 11, which would mean that the staff deployed on the election duty would be back only after the results are declared and that is why most government officials have stayed away from their regular posting.
The Election Commission of India had said that some relaxation would be announced after the elections officials were waiting for some communiqué from the poll body till late evening.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that some of them who were appointed as sector officers for elections have been relieved of their duties and they are back to their regular posting. But a large section of government servants who were deployed as polling officials and presiding officers are yet to be relieved.
Surprisingly, the various arrangements made for the elections like pandals, etc., were yet to be removed though the elections were held on Saturday. The drapes put up for the Assistance booth at Margao Municipal Council remained in place on Monday and so also the pink buntings at the “pink booth” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Colmorod, Margao.
