PONDA: Bagayat farmers from Ponda taluka on Monday complained of crop losses on account of Cyclone Tauktae which left a trail of destruction across the State.
Bethki-Khandola farmers said they have suffered heavy losses as they had nearly harvested the paddy crop and were about to harvest the standing crop. However, the cyclone accompanied by heavy rains and gusty winds damaged their crops.
Agricultural officer Pradnya Gaude said the total crop losses are estimated to be around Rs 8 lakh in the taluka, which include agriculture, paddy, horticulture and arecanut bagayats.
Gaude said Bethki-Khandola paddy farmers were also affected due to the cyclone as most of them had harvested their crops which were destroyed due to the cyclone.
