Ponda Hanuman Tirth lake to get facelift

PONDA: The only clean water source spring lake Hanuman Tirth located in Ponda city that was on verge of extinction now will get a new lease of life as it would be beautified and developed by Department of Water Resources costing around Rs 50 lakh, informed Ponda MLA Ravi Naik on Friday.

The MLA said, “The work has been already tendered and the delay was caused due to lockdown. However, work on its beautification would commence soon.”

“This spring flows throughout year. This is one of the oldest springs and its water is believed to have health benefits. Earlier, the water was used by Hanuman Temple.”

Naik said, “The retaining wall will be constructed on all four sides. Separate arrangements will be made for Ganesh Idol immersion for the Varkhandem locals. Once its construction work is completed it would be one of the beautiful sites in Ponda city.”

Earlier, the Hanuman Tirth spring was found in trouble when national highway expansion work was in progress. However, many NGOs came forward and saved the lake from filling under national highway widening work project. This lake is located near Hanuman Temple, Varkhandem by the side of Curti-Ponda national highway.

The contractor who is awarded the contract of the said work informed that the lake will be one of the beautiful sites in Ponda city after its renovation and beatification work. It will be beautified similar to Ana Fonte Garden, Margao.
