PONDA: The Ponda locals on Monday urged the government to provide bio-toilets to youth who have arrived in the town for the Army recruitment.
The employees at Ponda Hanuman Temple said, “The ‘future jawans’ are sleeping in the temple premises without any masks and do not follow the COVID-19 standard operating procedures. The locals have even urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide facilities for the Army test recruits.
“During the week-long drive, thousands of youth are expected to give physical and other aptitude tests. However, in the absence of accommodation they are occupying temple premises. When it comes to attending nature’s call they defecate and urinate in the open public places causing great hardships to the devotees and locals,” said a Ponda local.
“Since the past three days hundreds of youth have occupied our temple premises and render the area unclean as garbage is thrown carelessly in the area,” said Ponda Hanuman Temple Committee President Sudesh Naik.
“We had complained to the government authorities who had assured to provide the youth all basic facilities. However, these youth cause great nuisance and it becomes difficult for us to conduct our daily activities,” Naik added.
Meanwhile the NGO, People of Ponda, had made arrangements for the ‘future jawans’ at the Sports Complex, Curti.
The locals have demanded that at least the government make available around 50 bio-toilets all over city so that these youth coming from across India are not forced to defecate and urinate in the open and public places.
