Ponda PS shut temporarily after 3 cops test positive

PONDA:  Three policemen tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday prompting the authorities to shut down the Ponda Police Station temporarily.

The cops who tested positive for the virus include a PI and one each from Sanquelim and Borim respectively.

The Ponda Police Station, which has been temporarily shut for public, will take up only the relevant cases. 

Following the news of three policemen testing positive for the virus, the people who came in contact with them, rushed to the Ponda Sub District Hospital for COVID testing. It is learnt that 149 policemen underwent the test and their reports are awaited. 

A media person who came in contact with the policemen also underwent a test. 

The Sub District hospital on Wednesday conducted over 230 COVID tests and the reports of the same are awaited.

It is learnt that the PI was posted at Verna before his transfer to Ponda and had taken the charge of the station 12 days ago. 

PI had undergone COVID test a week back, but the results came negative. 

However, on Wednesday he tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, the charge of Ponda Police Station has been handed over to Collem PI.
