PONDA: Folk artistes gathered in large numbers and displayed the rich traditional culture of Goa at the Shigmo float parade, on Tuesday.
A large number of people flocked at Ponda town to watch Shigmo parade, which commenced from Tisk and culminated at Old Bus Stand, Ponda. Fancy dress, folk dance etc were on display at the Shigmo floats parade.
The floats depicted the scenes on mythological stories, which was enjoyed by people of all age groups, including children and elders.
Director of Tourism Sunil Hanshipakka, Deputy Director Diraj Vagale, PMC Chief Officer Yogiraj Gosavi, Rohan Kaskar and other government officials were present on the occasion.
Compared to last year, there were more participants in all categories. All together 25 floats, 10 Romtamel dancers, five folkdance troupes, 75 fancy dress competition particip-ants enthralled the audience as part of the Shigmo parade.
Shigmo is one of the most vibrant and colourful festivals celebrated in Goa. People to come together and celebrate the arrival of spring. With its colourful parades, traditional folk dances, and elaborate costumes, Shigmo is a time of joy, happiness, and community spirit.
The Shigmotsav float parade is a visual spectacle, with participants dressed in traditional costumes and adorned with elaborate jewellery by holding huge coloured flags, and various cultural elements.
Every element of Shigmotsav offers a glimpse into the life and traditions of Goans. Shigmotsav is celebrated by common people. Bidding adieu to the winter, Shigmotsav is celebrated on a full moon day during the month of March (Falgun).
