PONDA: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leaders on Wednesday threatened to launch a massive agitation with the support of likeminded parties from January 15 onwards over the government’s failure to provide CT scan, MRI and emergency medical facilities at Ponda Sub District Hospital for past several years.
MGP leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar said, “Seven months ago when Sub District hospital was converted into a COVID hospital, the Chief Minister and the Medical Superintendent of Sub District Hospital Dr Vikas Kuvelkar had promised to provide CT scan, MRI and emergency medical facilities to Pondaites at the hospital. At present for minor health problems Pondaites are referred to the Goa Medical College.”
“What is the use of having such massive hospital as the patients with heart ailments or during other emergencies lose their life before reaching GMC? To save the lives of Marcaim, Priol, Shiroda and Ponda locals beside those from Dharbandora taluka there is an urgent need to have CT scan and MRI machines to reduce the load on GMC”, Bhatikar said.
Bhatikar said, “Bad roads leads to accidents and so the agitation for better facility at Sub District and agitation for better roads is interconnected.”
Viraj Sapre demanded that the long pending STP and hot mixing work in Ponda be completed.
Sapre said, “Now several years passed, the Ponda Sewage Treatment Plant work is incomplete. The roads have been dug several times in a year but there is no sign of completing the STP. With the roads still not hotmixed, riders have complained of back pain and injuries sustained while commuting along these roads.”
He said, “Riders are issued challans for not wearing helmets but what about bad roads? Why no action is taken against those responsible for bad roads? The sports complex facilities at Curti are neglected and lack maintenance.”
