Poor quality forces GSHC to return veggies to wholesaler

Goa State Horticulture Corporation (GSHC) is facing problem of poor quality of vegetables forcing its wholesaler to take back the products.
The Corporation received several complaints in the last two days that the vegetables supplied at its Porvorim carts were not of good quality.
The complaints were only regarding lady fingers and potatoes. The Sangli wholesaler who has been awarded a fresh contract to supply vegetables at Corporation’s 18 outlets in Porvorim had to take back the products.
“They are new and not aware about the vegetable quality we sell at our outlets. The quality they supplied to us was not up to the standards of Belgaum vegetables,” Corporation’s Managing Director Orlando Rodrigues told Herald.
Apart from wholesalers in other parts of Maharashtra, the Corporation has tie ups with few farmers in Sangli who are supplying their wholesale produce here.
As per the contract, the wholesaler has ensured to rectify the fault and supply quality vegetables from Wednesday onwards.
Earlier, the Corporation’s subsidised vegetable scheme had feared to hit a rock bottom after traders raised red flags in Belgaum. A brief violence, commotion and failed talks left Corporation in bad taste.
But suddenly, a group of farmers in Belgaum came forward to help out the sagging scheme. The Corporation at the same time re-routed its supply from placed like Chikmangalore, Nashik, Kolhapur and other parts of Maharashtra.
The immense support by the farmers helped the GHSC to save its ambitious subsidised vegetable scheme from derailing.
Belgaum farmers have supported unconditionally and in return GHDC has reciprocated by paying them handsome money for their products. The supply is now without any middlemen and commission agents who escalated the prices of veggies.
