PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday stated that the Major Ports Authority Bill, 2020 has given a death blow to a small State like Goa and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the BJP government sold the State to the party leaders in New Delhi.
AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre said, “Mormugao Port Trust will now be a ‘State within State’ as it will now have jurisdiction over one third of Goan land extending from Betul in the South to Cabo Raj Bhavan in the North.” He pointed out that even repairs of a house in this stretch will now require permission or permission from the MPT.
Mhambre accused all three Members of Parliament from Goa of betraying Goa’s interest as not one of them objected to the bill.
“The Lok Sabha MPs were silent when the Bill was passed in August last year and the Rajya Sabha MP was silent on Thursday,” he said.
He cautioned that MPT will now have unfettered powers overriding those of the local bodies like panchayat and municipality.
“The worst part is that the fishing community of Goa will be annihilated as even their dwelling houses will now come under MPT jurisdiction,” he added.
Rahul said the fishing jetties will then be used for coal transportation and said Dr Pramod Sawant has very conveniently made Goa a coal hub.
“The MPT could even stop the fishing activity and especially deep sea fishing citing national interest,” Mhambre pointed out.
Mhambre said that the Chief Minister has till today not listed the number of jobs that will be created for the Goans or what benefits the State will get by becoming a coal hub.
Explaining all the benefits provided by Aam Aadmi Party government in New Delhi to the people, AAP leader Valmiki Naik on Friday urged the people of Usgao to vote for AAP at the next Assembly elections to get the same benefits in the State.
Addressing the “Veej Andolan” programme in Usgao, Valmiki disclosed that in New Delhi people consuming 200 units of power per month do not get any bills while those consuming 201 to 400 units per month get a 50 per cent discount on their bills.
He pointed out that in New Delhi people get world class medical treatment at the Mohalla Clinics, which is absolutely free and even admired by the Western countries. Even medicines prescribed at the clinics are available free of cost at the pharmacy. In Goa, at Goa Medical College and Hospital not all medicines are provided free to the patients.
He also informed the gathered crowd how Arvind Kejriwal, founder of AAP, has changed the education system in New Delhi where the government schools give not only quality education but also providing better infrastructure with some even having a swimming pools.
