VASCO: Port town, Vasco has visibly geared up for Diwali as various stalls of flowers and decorative items have mushroomed all over the municipal area. Youngsters in groups are working hard to finish off their Narkasur effigies on time. Vendors, locals feel that with mass COVID19 vaccination, people are confident to venture into the public areas freely and coming out for Diwali shopping. Last year there was COVID pandemic and Diwali celebration was clamped by several restrictions. A Vasco local, out for Diwali shopping, said, “There is inflation and the prices of commodities are very high. But we are grateful that we are getting an opportunity to celebrate Diwali with family post pandemic.” A vendor of decorative materials said that he has put up a stall two days ago and the customers are just turning in. “This time people are enthusiastic and are eagerly coming to buy things. The vaccination of COVID-19 seems to have played good role in bringing down the cases. We hope that this year at least we get good business because last year it was disaster.”
Youngsters were actively seen taking part in making various kinds of Narkasur effigies. One boy named Prayag Prabhugaonkar from Headland Sada said that immediately after Navratri festival was over, his team of friends started making Narkasur effigies.
He will start painting the effigy shortly and their Narkasur will be ready by Tuesday evening.
