The newly opened Porvorim Elevated Corridor has come under scrutiny after a series of accidents and traffic-related concerns were reported within days of becoming operational.
SEPTEMBER 12: FATAL THREE-VEHICLE CRASH

Barely 24 hours after the corridor opened, a three-vehicle collision occurred near the entry-exit point opposite Neo Majestic Hotel.
According to reports, a speeding car travelling towards Panaji hit a two-wheeler, forcing it under a truck entering from the service road. The car then crashed into the rear of the truck.
Two people died in the accident, while two others sustained injuries and were taken for treatment. The crash triggered public concern over traffic movement, lane merging and safety arrangements at the entry-exit point.
MID-SEPTEMBER: VEHICLE CRASHES INTO MEDIAN
In another incident, a rent-a-car allegedly lost control while travelling on the elevated stretch and crashed into the central median during late-night hours.
The crash caused significant damage to the vehicle and raised further questions about speeding and vehicle control on the corridor.
SEPTEMBER 21: LATE-NIGHT COLLISION
Another collision was reported at around 1.30 am on the elevated corridor, involving two cars.
One vehicle allegedly collided with another from behind. Both vehicles suffered damage, while those involved were taken to Goa Medical College for treatment. Police later indicated that there were no serious injuries.
SAFETY CONCERNS
The incidents have brought renewed attention to the corridor’s entry and exit points, lane merging, signage, speed management and other road-safety measures.
Following the initial fatal crash, authorities also introduced restrictions on two-wheelers on the elevated corridor while safety measures were reviewed.
The series of incidents within days of the corridor’s opening has intensified questions over whether motorists were adequately guided through the new traffic arrangement and whether additional safety measures are required at critical points.
