VALPOI: Shivkumar Pawar, aged 18, from Porvorim was feared drowned in a river at Velguem, Sattari on Sunday.
Police stated that Pawar had gone for a swim in the river at Velguem and was suddenly pulled away by a deep current. His friends tried to rescue him but failed to do so. Personnel from the Valpoi Fire Services rushed to site and launched the search operation and continued till late night but failed to trace the youth.
“The deceased is from Porvorim and had come to Velguem with his friends when the unfortunate incident happended. The fire tender was informed immediately after receiving the news of him drowning,” said Valpoi Police Inspector Deepak Gadekar, adding that the search operation would resume on Monday morning.
Pawar was working as a mechanic at a two wheeler showroom at Porvorim. Police said they were frantically looking out for the missing youth.
