PONDA: Tiswadi residents including some parts of Ponda taluka on Wednesday evening faced water shortage on account of the power failure reported at the pumping station at the Opa water treatment plant.
The residents of Panjim, Taleigao, Santa Cruz, Merces, Chimbel, Ribandar and even some parts of Ponda were affected.
When contacted, Executive Engineer Nivruthi Parsekar claimed that the problem was not a major one and workers at OPA plant immediately repaired the pipe joints and plugged the leakages.
He said the weakened joints in two pipes were repaired immediately before 10.30 pm and water supply was restored on Wednesday night.
According to officials at Curti Sub Station, the work of laying underground 33 kv power cable to OPA water plant is progressing and once completed the Opa plant will not face any power problems. Winds and snapping of tree branches on the overhead power lines affected power supply to Opa plant causing the pipeline to burst resulting in breakdown in pumping operations.
