MARGAO: Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar defended the government’s decision to marginally increase power traffi stating that it was required as the State government has to handle the cost of all streetlights in the State besides other expenditure for providing power supply, which runs into crores of rupees.
Dhavalikar was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the pedestrian pathway and illumination along the ring road, here.
He added that earlier various government departments would handle streetlights but after a new policy decision, the same has been streamlined wherein the Electricity Department handles it.
The Power Minister also said the one-time-settlement scheme will not be extended any further and urged all individuals as well as private and government entities to clear their pending dues soon. He also announced that smart cards will be offered to all soon, which will make it easier for the public.
He also added that the State government will be implementing two pilot hydropower projects of the Central government as announced in the Budget where electricity will be harnessed through such technology.
