CALANGUTE: The residents of Calangute are angry and frustrated over the constant load shedding and voltage fluctuations. Calangute is dogged by constant power fluctuations and a lot and frequent power cuts over the last few years.
On Tuesday evening, the Calangute residents were without power for nearly four hours.
Denzil D’Costa, a local from Calangute, said that they had no electricity from 7 pm. “It has been over three hours and power has not been restored. This is a very sad state of affairs being faced by people on the coastal belt. We would not have witnessed frequent power cuts if Calangute had been provided with a 33KV cable power supply and a separate substation for the village. When we call the electricity department they are giving the excuse of load shedding,” D’Costa said.
Another local said that time and again they are witnessing a problem like this especially during the monsoon and peak season. “Last Tuesday as well Calangute was plunged into darkness for over three hours. The people on the coastal belt are facing power cuts practically every single day. The panchayat should take up the issue with the concerned minister and meet the power demands of Calangute,” he said.
