Power tariff hike: LoP slams govt failure to control electricity losses

MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao urged Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar to make public the power losses exhibited in the Performa account based on demand, collection,

and balance statements of

all divisions of the State Electricity Department.

Reacting to the proposal of the State Government to hike the power tariff in Goa by almost 6 percent, the Leader of Opposition said that the government should not burden consumers for the Department’s failure to assess and control power losses.

He said that the insensitivity of the BJP Government is clearly visible in the proposed hike in tariff ranging between 15 to 60 paise per unit for domestic, low-tension consumers and 70 paise

per unit for high-tension domestic consumers.

“The people are just recovering from the huge economic blow they suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is surely not the right time to burden them,” said Alemao.
