MARGAO: The South Goa Mahila Congress President, Pratima Coutinho, has slammed Union Minister Smriti Irani for making disparaging comments on Congress women.
Stating that Ms Irani came up in her career – be it TV, films or politics — using the same methods that she accuses the Congress women of employing, Ms Coutinho demanded an apology from the minister for making the disparaging comments.
Addressing the press, she asked, “Why suppress women on clothing and other issues? They are at par in society and it is women’s right what and what not to wear.”
Ms Coutinho asserted that women in Congress have worked hard to climb up the ladder. “She is speaking from her experience of coming up in politics and films industry; we all know how film industry works,” she said mockingly.
She said that, if need be, the party would file a defamation case against Ms Irani.
