Priority for jobs to Goan youth in private sector, says Sawant

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the State government will bring in requisite amendments to the existing policy, if the need be, to ensure that Goans are given priority and permanent jobs in private companies.

Reacting to hue and cry over some of the Goa-based pharmaceutical companies conducting recruitment drive outside the State for its facility in Goa, Sawant said he will soon have a meeting with the Labour and Employment Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate and the Labour commissioner in this regards.

Following protests by the opposition parties, the Chief Minister had to intervene and ask two pharmaceutical companies to cancel their walk-in interviews scheduled outside the State. One company had scheduled its interviews in Mumbai while, another had fixed it in Pune. But these recruitments were for their Goa facility.

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao had demanded a high-level inquiry on all the recruitments done by the private companies situated in the State in the last few years and to place the report in the ensuing monsoon session of Goa Legislative Assembly.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had demanded a comprehensive white paper detailing the current status of jobs for Goans within the State.
