PERNEM: Farmers from Paliem, Pernem have requested the concerned authorities to solve the problem of saline water entering their agricultural fields and damaging them.

They criticised the local MLA for only distributing seeds and fertilisers and for not solving their problems.

They claimed that it has been two months since the saline water has entered their agricultural fields, which has damaged their cultivable land.

If this problem is not solved on priority, then they will not be able to cultivate their land for upcoming season and for the next five years.

“The saline water entering the fields is a poison for agriculture land,” a farmer claimed.

Farmers also informed that the government has constructed a sluice gate at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh which is not benefiting them as the sea water continues to enter their fields.

“The MLA is distributing seeds and fertilisers but what are we supposed to do with that? What is the use of seeds if there is no land for cultivation? We request the concerned department and MLA to look into this issue and get it solved since our livelihood depends on this agriculture activity “, they added.
