Protests in Vasco after ‘dead man’ found seeking deletion of voters’ names

Vasco: Goa Congress  Vice-President and members met the Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai regarding alleged attempts to seek the deletion of around 900 names of the valid voters from the voters list of Mormugao constituency. 

Amonkar  produced documents revealing that a man (objector) who died ten months ago has sought for deletion of 14 voters’ names from the electoral list; as well as a case where another objector who stays in Nasik, Maharashtra. Amonkar demanded that the objector be present for the hearing of deletion

He also made allegations that the 29 BLOs who were given jobs by the Urban Development Minister are biased and are working under pressure of the minister.  so as to verify their allegations. 

Later, the Dy Collector, said “there is no question of illegal manner, because when the names are entered for deletion, we are bound to take action on it. So the inquiry will be conducted. Firstly the objector will be verified, BLOs report will be taken. I have also assured that the Mamlatdar and I will personally visit some of the houses in cases wherever there are more names likely to be deleted. After the reports come, the notices will be issued to the electors whose name is to be deleted at the registered address, which is included in the electoral roll. Once this is done, then seven days time will be given to reply to that notice and only after that if it is found that the person does not reside in that area only in such cases names should be deleted.” 

When asked about the dead person seeking deletion of names, Desai assured that cross verification of the objectors will be done by his signatures.
