PANJIM: The Electricity Employees Union (EEU)-Goa has urged the State government to provide immediate compensation of Rs 25 lakh each along with employment to the family members of those three Electricity Department workers, who died in a road accident, at Borim, on Thursday.
The Union has also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the injured employees, who are undergoing treatment. Around five workers, which included a lineman, wireman and line helpers, were seriously injured after the truck, carrying electrical pole, overturned at Borim Circle.

The Electricity Employees Union General Secretary RD Mangueshkar said that the Union deeply condoles the demise of three electricity staff employees.
Mangueshkar added that the vehicles used by the Electricity Department are very old, as old as 25-30 years and are not road-worthy and needs immediate replacement.
“To make it worst, these vehicles also have no insurance coverage,” he said adding that despite various representations by the Union, the government has failed to take any concrete step.
The Union further accused the government of playing with the lives of the electricity employees by using such old vehicles.
“The government must replace all outdated vehicles which are above 15 years with new vehicles with proper insurance coverage,” Mangueshkar demanded.
