MAPUSA: Porvorim police arrested Rupendra Naik (28), the main accused in the rape and murder of a 28-year-old woman whose body was found in bushes of Paithana in Salvador do Mundo.
Naik was absconding after committing the crime. He was tracked down in Odisha and arrested.
“We have arrested the main accused in the rape and murder of a 28-year-old woman whose body was found in bushes of Paithana (in partially decomposed state on February 10). The accused is in our custody and he will be interrogated. Further investigation is on,” Porvorim PI Ninad Deulakar informed.
Initially, the Porvorim police had detained a 16-year-old juvenile in the case.
The victim was a Odisha native who was staying with her male partner who is a mason and working at construction site in Porvorim.
Porvorim police have registered a case under Sections 376-D, 302 and 201 read with 34 of IPC.
