PANJIM: After weeks of inquiry, Crime Branch registered an offence against Police Sub Inspector Gautam Shetkar, accused of allegedly abetting the suicide of a lady constable earlier this year.
CB has booked him under sections of the Indian Penal Code for sexual abuse and abetting suicide. Sources said that the PSI will again be called for questioning; however, his arrest is not certain.
The family of the young lady constable had moved a local court insisting for a murder probe against the PSI, after CB’s investigation did not find any link with the PSI and the death of the new police recruit. Herald was the first to report that the probe was ‘inconclusive’ as statements of witnesses do not raise any suspicion.
The lady constable died four days after her alleged suicide bid while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College. The police launched a probe but after her family approached the police brass demanding action against the PSI, the case was transferred to CB. The victim’s family lodged a complaint accusing Shetkar of compelling the 20-year-old to end her life. Shetkar was questioned for 4 to 5 days and simultaneously shunted to GRP, Altinho.
