MARGAO: Margao Councillor and Fatorda Forward candidate Puja Naik on Wednesday evening filed her nomination for the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson’s post.
The post fell vacant following the resignation of former chairperson Babita Angle. Puja submitted her nomination form to MMC Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik.
She was accompanied by former chairperson Babita along with Councillors Zita Crasto, Vice-Chairperson Tito Cardozo, Raju Hadlee Shirodkar and others.
The name of Puja Naik was recommended by the Goa Forward President and Fatorda Forward patron Vijai Sardesai.
Puja Naik said, “I am going to win the election but at the same time I urge the Opposition councillors if they have clean conscience they should support me”.
Former chairperson Babita Angle said, “All Fatorda Forward councillors have openly supported our candidate for the chairperson’s post. The Opposition councillors have opposed the installation of Dr Jack Sequeira’s statue and have created ruckus at an important meeting by staging a walkout. Puja will be the chairperson and we will keep our assurances and the resolutions.”
