Pujan ends in Canacona

CANACONA, AUG 24 Fisherwomen at Rajbag-Tarir, Canacona, culminated their 15-day Pujan period with the 'Narali Poornima', an exercise to worship sea, praying for good fishing yields in the ensuing fishing season.

Fisherwomen at Rajbag-Tarir, Canacona, culminated their 15-day Pujan period with the ‘Narali Poornima’, an exercise to worship sea, praying for good fishing yields in the ensuing fishing season.
About 200 women gathered on Tuesday evening and performed ‘Narali Poornima’ on Rajbag-Tarir beach shore as their annual ritual.
Beginning with the commencement of Shravan month, the fishing community womenfolk in a ceremonial manner brings sea water filled in ‘Kalash’ back home to prepare for this day daily conducting Puja.
These women do not consume fish or any non-veg food during the 15-day period and performs Puja of this ‘Kalash’ containing seawater, daily.
On the 15th day, all the women enter the Rajbag-Tarir beach in a festive mood, carrying flowers decorated ‘Kalash’, performs joint Puja on the shore, before releasing flowers into the sea anticipating better fishing yield in the months to come.
