Ponda: Shocked at the manner in which water was being stolen Shivde-Dharbandora village, locals had complained to the PWD in April that the people allegedly involved in the theft, had illegally connected pipes to the water storage tank, to wrongfully divert the water for their own purposes.
On Friday, PWD water supply officials disconnected the said pipes, which locals speculate was being used to steal water for drinking or irrigation purposes illegally. However, the locals were not satisfied with the action taken and urged the officials to file a police complaint against the accused persons at the cost of the police.
Locals issued a warning to the PWD officials that if they fail to file a police complaint, they will not allow water supply from the water storage tank.
They demanded for an inquiry as well and complained that they were forced to deal with water shortage for the last decade. They further pointed out that the incident came to light only after the locals only pursued the matter and discovered what was happening at the tank, which was constructed in 2008.
At the end of the deliberations, PWD officials assured to fulfil their demands.
It is to be noted that the Senior Engineer from Margao Water supply division Vijay Kurchorkar, Curchorem Water supply division Assistant Engineer Devidas Gaude and JE Vrishali Naik were present whereas local Deputy Sarpanch Paresh Khutkar, Panch Vinayak Gawas were present.
