VASCO: Chastising the officials of Public Works Department (PWD) from Vasco for failing to eliminate sewage menace posing his health risk to the residents of government quarters at Headland Sada (near Sada sub jail), Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Vice Chairperson Shasikant Parab on Saturday accused the PWD officials for playing pass-the-buck game since last over one year.

According to Parab, two months ago he first received the complaint from the residents about sewage menace surrounding to their quarters.
“At that time these residents had informed me that they have been suffering since last one year due to sewage menace. Since last two months I have been trying to resolve the issue. Soon after I received the complaint, I immediately got the area inspected by MMC sanitary inspector. Since the quarters is owned by the State government with maintenance under PWD, instructions were issued to sanitary inspector to coordinate with PWD and get the issue resolved on priority but he passed the buck on PWD,” Parab said.
“Later, PWD sewage department officials were contacted and even they conducted inspection of the site and passed the buck on PWD water supply division stating that the maintenance of the quarters is with water supply division. Later since the issue was not resolved and officers were busy passing buck I had to contact media for helping the residents” he said
He further claimed that “It is very unfortunate that PWD officials failed to resolve the issue of sewage menace which is a serious health hazard. Already two students from my ward died due to dengue last year. Three people from this government quarters recently got infected with dengue. If this continues and if government officials’ act in such negligent and despite of the fact that we have our own government in state then what more I can say,” he said.
