VASCO: The cosmetic work of patching up roads in the Port town by the PWD has been washed off within a few days following heavy rains.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State President Jose Philip D’Souza had recently approached the office of Deputy Collector Paresh Faldesai and Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu and had sought an explanation as to why the roads were neglected by the PWD.
D’Souza had met the PWD engineers and had directed them to carry out the work of filling up the potholes. PWD workers followed up by filling up the potholes of an internal town road with the help of a road-roller.
The PWD officials revealed that some stretch of the F L Gomes Road and part of Vaddem roads belongs to the highways authorities and had assured to coordinate with them to fill up the potholes.
When asked as to why he shifted his stance from staging protest to urging the PWD authorities to undertake swift patch work, D’Souza said it was necessary to look after people’s safety. The PWD had filled up potholes with rubbles and mud tentatively, which got washed away within few days.
D’Souza had threatened to stage a protest if the potholes were not filled by July-end.
