MAPUSA: The JMFC Mapusa on Monday remanded two brothers for seven days police custody for allegedly murdering their brother in a domestic altercation on Sunday night.
The Mapusa Police arrested the two alleged accused brothers after their sister Geeta Kerkar, resident of Acoi-Mapusa, complained against her two brothers Vinod Kerkar (62) and Dnyaneshwar Kerkar (50) for allegedly murdering her third brother Vilas Kerkar (52) during a family quarrel. The police have registered an offence under Section 323, 302, 506(2) R/W 34 IPC.
According to police sources, incident occurred at around 8.45 pm on Sunday in the compound of their house located, at Acoi-Mapusa.
Reliable sources informed that a minor issue between the three brothers led to this crime. They claimed that first accused Vinod (62) was having bath when he asked his sister (complainant) for a towel. Reacting to it, the second brother (deceased) asked him why he is calling her, (the incident of calling the sister with the towel use to happen repeatedly), responding to which, sister said it was okay since she was the one who took care of him when he was sick.
However, the repetitive argument between the brothers on this issue turned the situation chaotic and the verbal abuse turned into physical fights between the brother (deceased) and the two accused brothers.
“The two accused brothers while the fight was going on, one picked up a thick PVC pipe and another heavy wooden log and smashed on the face and head of their third brother (deceased). Sister and another relative, who were present at the crime spot tried to stop them from fighting. However, the two accused brothers pushed them away,” sources claimed.
Neighbours stated that the two brothers did not allow anyone to touch the injured to take him to the hospital for almost 40 to 45 minutes till other relatives could arrive. He was then taken to District Hospital Mapusa where the doctors declared him brought death.
After the post mortem, body of the deceased was handover to family members for the final rites.
Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar is further investigating the case.
Sources further claimed that fights use to occur between the brothers several times and four months back the brother (deceased) had filed a police complaint against the two brothers for repetitive fights and using abusive language after consuming alcohol.
