Parcem-Panjim: On Friday, The quarries in the area were closed by the Parcem panchayat, who were assisted by the locals. They also cautioned people against swimming or entering the quarries during the monsoons.
The Parcem panchayat, with the help of local residents, shut down the quarries in the vicinity and warned people not to swim or enter them during the monsoon season. We have seen over past several weeks many deaths have been reported at such quarries across the State. Despite tragic incidents, the authorities have failed to fence even a single quarry. Forget barricading them, the authorities have also failed to install signboards warning the people of the dangers except for one or two. With no fence or barricade around them, these quarries are filled with rainwater and pose danger to humans. These quarries are attracting youth, who visit the site for a swim.
