MARGAO: South Goa District Collector N D Agrawal has granted the application of the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Quepem, Fr Mario Vaz, for conversion of land admeasuring 1,750 sq mts for construction of a Church.
Quoting the findings of the Deputy Collector, the Collector said it is crystal clear that the property in question is free from tenancy and the provisions of the Goa Land Use Act are not applicable in the case. The Collector found no substance in the objection that part of the property which applicant Fr Vaz has desired to convert now is already converted and the same cannot be reconverted.
“Objection was raised by objector that the land in question is already converted by the deputy collector and SDO, Quepem, under conversion sanad dated July, 27, 1995 and hence cannot be again converted. As mentioned by the deputy collector that the conversion sanad issued in 1995 is already expired on July 26, 1997 and no further extension has been granted. Therefore, there is no substance in this objection that the land is already converted,” Agrawal added.
He observed that the land in question is not affected by the Goa Land Use Act as the land is free from the tenancy. The fact has been verified by the deputy collector, Quepem, as directed by the High Court of Bombay at Goa. “The Town Planning Department and the Forest department also have given their no objection for the conversion of the land for institution purpose. Hence the application of the applicant under section 32 of the Goa Land Revenue Code for the conversion of an area admeasuring 1,750 sq mts from survey No 40/1 to 20 is hereby granted,” the Collector stated in his order.
