PANJIM: The Rent-A-Cab (RAC) North Goa Association protested at the Transport Department on Friday where they complained that they have suffered business loss because private cars and bikes are being given out on rent without registering themselves or following the laid down rules.

The association submitted a memorandum to the Transport Department as well on this complaining about the same.

Speaking to media, Association president Ramdas Palkar said that RAC operators pay all the necessary taxes and insurance at a higher rate than private vehicles.  However, they lamented that the private car and bike owners are renting out their vehicles at very low costs, which in turn is reducing their business drastically.

Palkar also pointed out that their business has already been suffering due to the pandemic and has been at a low for a long period now. On top of that, they said they still have to pay their insurance and bank instalments. They reiterated that when they do all this and comply with the prevailing rules, unregistered private vehicle owners who give out their bikes and cars on rent, have been eating into their business unfairly.

RAC members further demanded that the State government immediately resolves this issue as their livelihood is at stake.
