Govt releases Goa Welfare Pension scheme for seafarers

MARGAO: Goa Welfare Pension scheme for seafarers has been released for the months of June, July, and August, which is a relief for the thousands of beneficiaries.

Seafarers’ long fight with the Government for a pension scheme finally comes to an end as the latter has is depositing the funds into the accounts. 

On behalf of Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI), Frank Viegas gracefully thanked all those involved in taking up the cause for these last few months. 

He lauded the efforts of all MLAs, who took up the issue and in particular the NRI Commissioner and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant who resolved the long standing problem of the seafarer community. 

Frank Viegas mentioned that he is still hopeful and positive that the pension scheme will be made permanent as per the assurance given by the CM and also to look into the arrears to be cleared from October 2019 or at least from January 2021.

GSAI also urge the NRI department to streamline the process for new applicant since it is almost three months from the day the scheme have been notified on June 25 so that they will be benefited out of it.
